Install the Banter Unity SDK and Build Your First Space
Banter provides an official Unity installer package and the Banter Builder editor window. The SDK can package a Unity scene as a space, package prefabs as a kit bundle, or prepare a GameObject as an avatar.
Create the correct Unity project, import Banter's installer, and complete the build through Banter Builder.
- Create a Unity project that is compatible with the current Banter SDK package.
- Import the official Banter installer package into the Project panel.
- Open Banter > Banter Builder, add the content you want to build, then use the available build action.
1. Create the Unity Project
The current Banter SDK package manifest declares Unity 2022.3 with unityRelease 39f1. Use that package metadata as the minimum compatibility reference for the current SDK source, and confirm the installed package's own manifest before starting a production project. The manifest does not declare a required render pipeline.
2. Import the Banter Installer
Download the official Banter installer package. Drag the .unitypackage into Unity's Project panel and import it.
After the package finishes importing, Unity should expose a Banter menu in the top menu bar.
3. Open Banter Builder
Open Banter > Banter Builder. The content you add depends on what you are publishing:
| Creator task | What Banter's guide tells you to add |
|---|---|
| Build a space | Drag the Unity scene file onto Banter Builder. |
| Build a kit bundle | Drag prefabs onto Banter Builder. |
| Build an avatar | Open the Avatar tab and drag a GameObject from the Hierarchy. |
For an avatar, Banter's guide also calls out head-object visibility for the local wearer and the need to set eye and feet positions and orientations correctly.
4. Build or Upload
Use Build, or Build & Upload when signed in. Banter's official guide says the build exports asset bundles into:
Assets/WebRoot
Check the Unity Console after the build. Resolve errors before treating the exported content as ready for testing or upload.
Common Questions
Which Unity version should I use for Banter?
The current official package manifest declares Unity 2022.3 with unityRelease 39f1. Check the manifest included with the package you are installing because this compatibility value can change.
Which render pipeline should I select?
The current public documentation does not name a required render pipeline. Confirm the supported project configuration before importing the SDK into a production project.
Where is Banter Builder after installation?
Open it from the Unity menu at Banter > Banter Builder. If that menu is missing, check whether the package finished importing and whether the Console reports import or compile errors.
