VRChat Creator Economy Subscriptions
VRChat's Creator Economy lets approved sellers monetize worlds, groups, and avatars directly in VRChat. Subscriptions are one part of that system: a user buys access through VRChat, receives the subscription's products, and loses access when the subscription ends.
For a creator, the important work is not just "turn subscriptions on." You need to decide what buyers receive, which group role they get, whether any Udon products are included, what the monthly price should be, and where the offer will be visible.
Define the subscriber benefit, role permissions, products, price, and store visibility before publishing.
- Confirm the account has access to VRChat Creator Economy, or apply through VRChat's Creator Economy application path.
- Decide what the subscription unlocks: a subscription role product, Udon products, or both.
- Create, review, and publish the subscription through VRChat's subscription tools before announcing it to users.
Creator Economy rules, prices, payout behavior, and product limits can change. Recheck VRChat's Creator Economy documentation before publishing or promising paid benefits.
What The Creator Economy Is
The Creator Economy is VRChat's built-in monetization system for approved sellers. It can be used to:
- monetize worlds, groups, and avatars directly in VRChat
- create products that unlock content for buyers
- sell listings to earn VRChat Credits
- use stores to help users discover things to buy
- pay out earnings through Tilia and PayPal
If you are not already a seller, apply through VRChat's Creator Economy application path first. This VRCreators page should not replace VRChat's current seller requirements.
What A VRChat Subscription Is
Subscriptions are attached to groups. Users can buy a subscription through a group store and unlock world or group benefits.
Subscriptions can contain:
| Product type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Subscription role product | Gives the subscriber access to a subscription role in the group. |
| Udon product | Can unlock world-side benefits where your world and Udon setup support it. |
Subscriptions can appear in a group store. Udon can also open a published subscription purchase screen directly, even if the store is unpublished.
The Three Subscription Pieces
A subscription is built from three connected parts:
| Piece | What it means |
|---|---|
| Subscription | The thing users buy in the group store. Subscribers gain access to the subscription's products and lose access when the subscription ends. |
| Subscription role product | The product that gives users access to a subscription role in your group. It is created automatically when you create a subscription. |
| Subscription role | The group role subscribers receive. It can grant special permissions in the group or group instances. |
Each subscription contains exactly one subscription role product. You can also add multiple Udon products.
What Subscribers Can Receive
Subscriber roles can unlock permissions and benefits such as:
- view all members
- enter group instances
- gain instance queue priority
- use
Enable Free Join for Subscribersso subscribers can join the group directly even if the group is otherwiseRequest to JoinorInvite-Only
That makes subscriptions useful for supporter access, event access, group-instance perks, and Udon-driven world benefits. The exact promise should be written clearly in the subscription name, description, thumbnail, and related group/event rules.
How To Create A Subscription
The subscription creation flow is:
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Create new subscription | Start from My Subscriptions or Store Manager on the VRChat website. |
| Group | Choose the group. If the group has no group store, VRChat creates one automatically. The subscription stays connected to that group. |
| Role details | Choose the subscription role name and description. This also sets the initial role product name. |
| Role permissions | Choose what the subscription role can do, such as viewing members, entering group instances, or queue priority. |
| Subscription details | Choose the name, description, thumbnail, monthly price, and plan options users see. |
| Subscription products | Confirm the included role product and add supported products such as Udon products. |
| Publish | Publish the subscription and publish the group store path before users can buy it there. |
Pricing, Products, And Visibility
As of this 2026-05-26 review, VRChat lists these subscription details:
| Area | Current behavior |
|---|---|
| Price | Monthly subscription prices can be set from 100 to 10,000 VRChat Credits. VRChat notes that the minimum and maximum can change. |
| Plan length | Subscribers can buy 1, 3, 6, or 12 months at once. |
| Product count | A subscription can give subscribers access to up to 10 products. |
| Required role product | The role created during setup is always included and cannot be removed from the subscription. |
| Draft status | Draft subscriptions cannot be purchased by users. |
| Published status | Published subscriptions can be purchased, depending on where users can see or open them. |
After publishing, users can see a subscription if it is added to a group store or if you have a store inside your world. For world-side sales, make the store path obvious and test the Udon purchase flow before sending users there.
Renewal, Payout, And Cancellation Notes
Before launch, account for these renewal, payout, and cancellation details:
- Subscriptions do not automatically renew when their duration expires.
- Users see a notification when a subscription is about to expire.
- Users can extend a subscription before it ends.
- Sellers receive VRChat Credits for the first month immediately.
- For multi-month subscriptions, remaining credits are received month by month.
- If a user cancels, the seller does not receive credits for remaining months.
- The subscription price includes a transaction fee of about
15.3%.
Those details affect how you explain subscriber benefits. Avoid promising "recurring" access forever; explain what happens during the purchased period and what stops when access ends.
Before You Publish
- Confirm seller access through VRChat's official Creator Economy path.
- Recheck VRChat's Creator Economy and Subscriptions pages for current limits and rules.
- Choose benefits that actually match subscription-role and Udon-product behavior.
- Make the subscription description specific about what users receive.
- Test the group role permissions.
- Test the purchase visibility path through the group store or Udon/world store flow.
- Publish only when the subscription, products, role, and user-facing explanation all match.
Common Problems
Help! I do not have Creator Economy access yet.
Use VRChat's Creator Economy application path first. The subscription setup flow only applies after seller access is available.
Help! I thought this was part of Creator Companion.
Creator Companion is the VRChat project management tool for Unity projects. Subscriptions are part of VRChat Creator Economy and are managed through VRChat website tools such as My Subscriptions and Store Manager.
Help! I only want to sell a world benefit.
Check whether an Udon product and world/store flow is the right fit. Subscriptions can include Udon products, but the actual world-side behavior depends on your Udon setup.
